Character Information
Name: Kaito Kuroba
Canon: Detective Conan / Magic Kaito
Canon Point: Post-chapter 36 in Magic Kaito, post-chapter 1021 in Detective Conan, post-movie 23 (Fist of Blue Sapphire)
Age: 17 and going time bubble strong
History: Wiki link here
Personality:
= Mischievous: Kaito's mischief knows no end. He is well known at his school for causing chaos on a daily basis, much to his teachers' chagrin. He will constantly disrupt class with magic tricks, and even engages in full-on chases with classmate and childhood friend, Aoko, about the classroom while class is in session. He takes insults levelled at him and turns them back on the speaker with a small magic trick. Plays at picking the lock on the girls' bathroom for no reason other than boredom. Even as Kid, he teases those who pursue him and uses that to give himself an edge when fleeing.
= Cheerful: Kaito's primary reason for performing magic is to bring joy to his audience, be they a lone individual or a full crowd. But one can't make people happy if they themselves aren't happy (or appear to be), so Kaito makes sure that he's always got a smile for a kid who looks down, that he's always the one starting the laughter - because magic, in his opinion, should always bring joy and wonder. This is consistent whether he's performing as Kaito or performing as Kid.
= Determined: When he decides to do something, Kaito damn well does it. This trait is both a positive and negative for him. It means he gets things done but also blinds him to some of the consequences. For example, his decision to become Phantom Thief Kid is fairly spontaneous and he doesn't ever seem to have any doubts about it. The realisation that the accident which killed his father was not, in fact, an accident spurs him to continue to commit crimes under the guise of his father's alter ego, even as the secret slowly forces him to drift apart from his childhood friend.
= Solitary: Kaito only has one confidant and that is his father's old assistant, Jii Konosuke. Not wishing to endanger those who know him, he keeps the secret of Kid close to his chest. This often means he's forced to lie about his injuries in class, or make up excuses to explain his absences. Where before he would have been extremely open about himself, wearing his heart upon his sleeve, Kaito has put up an invisible wall between himself and those around him ever since donning Kid's mantle. It hurts him, but his drive to bring his father's killers to justice outstrips his personal happiness.
= Intelligent: Whilst IQ scores are generally a poor indicator of intelligence (canon claims he has an IQ of 400), Kaito demonstrates his cunning and smarts multiple times through the orchestration of his heists. He plans, infiltrates, gathers information, and executes everything on his own. His ability to learn and adapt is frightening, and he's clever enough that he barely needs time to think in order to answer a complicated maths question. However, being too smart also means he occasionally misses very obvious "common sense" things.
= Self-sacrificing: He would rather see himself hurt than anyone else. This shows most notably in the Sun Halo and Corbeau chapters of his canon: in the former, he turns himself to land on a bed of upturned glass shards to protect Aoko from them, even though it leaves him severely injured and barely conscious; in the latter, he tries to save a rival thief from falling to their death even though moments before they had been threatening to shoot him dead. The thought of saving his own skin is one which never seems to occur to him.
Where and how did your character enter the Hedge?
Returning from some reconnaissance on whatever his next jewel may be, he ducks into some shelter to perform a quick-change and instead ends up stumbling out of the Hedge.
Additional Memories Lost: N/A
Skillsets:
Kaito possesses no arcane magic whatsoever but has plenty of other mundane skills. Primarily these are: lockpicking, sleight of hand, and everything else associated with stage magic/street magic. He also knows how to drive various vehicles but this is irrelevant for Ill Met. Probably.
His magician's skills have been adapted for thievery, so he knows how to walk softly and can eye a place's weakpoints at a glance. He's good at misdirection and is fair at reading other people's body language. He can change his voice without any artificial means and his ability to disguise as someone is near flawless. If he weren't a magician or a thief, he'd make a damn good detective.
Inventory:
1. Card gun (only fires out cards from a standard deck plus other non-lethal things, but for this we'll just say it's the cards)
2. A handful of diversionary smoke bombs
3. A single dove [pet]
Sample: Test drive meme
