Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief?

The Good--
He's already got a history of thieving. He's got this. (He's totally not got this.)

According to his most devoted pursuer, Kaito (Kid) is said to have an IQ of 400. As if being a literal genius isn't enough, he also has the apparently natural - or learnt - skill of being able to mimic just about any voice, is able to disguise himself as anyone given the right materials/gear, and also picks up new skills incredibly quickly if his antics in canon are anything to go by. He's shown to have a licence for a motorbike, and seems familiar with driving cars. He also appears to have passing familiarity with aeroplane controls, weirdly enough.

Basically, it seems as though there's not much he can't learn to do, and I say this without trying to exaggerate.

As far as his personality goes, by default he's charismatic, loud, confident - the kind of person everyone knows about even if they don't know him personally. He's the type of person able to put forth incredible stage presence when he wants to, and to also fade into the background where necessary. While he's more of a showman than a traditional thief, the fact remains that despite flaunting himself in the spotlight, he's yet to be caught. He makes backup plans for his backup plans. Even when things go wrong and he flies by the seat of his pants, he's prepared.

Lastly, he's a skilled magician. This means he's got good grounding in how to capture gaze, how to misdirect attention. He can pick locks, escape simple bindings, and is more than familiar with how to set up a heist. He's got the instincts of a thief, even if he never planned to use his talents for thievery. He's even athletic/limber enough to perform crazy stunts and outrun all but the most dogged pursuers.

The Bad--
He can't ice-skate or play billiards without cheating to save his life. But apart from that...

He's got a tendency to become overconfident at times. He's the type to aim for higher stakes, a higher score, and with that risk comes the possibility he'll fall for it. He's emotional, he gets attached, he can't always separate his personal feelings from the work at hand. Oh, he tries to hide it, but he can't erase it. Kaito just cares too much.

He also puts others first before his own personal safety and prefers to trust first rather than suspect. This can be exploited against him in a high stakes environment and potentially screw him out of a prize. Threaten to harm someone innocent and Kaito would rather cut off his own arm than see that person suffer.

At a stretch, the fact that Kaito rigorously plans out various means for acquiring his target and escaping means that it's easy to take advantage of those selfsame plans. Consider it like a game of chess between two masters: if Kaito meets someone who can outwit him (or just...completely throw all his plans out the window), he's done for.

Specialization:
Hacker, because he doesn't see the need to 'specialise' in thievery or grifting when he's already got those locked down, and because punching people is so very unrefined. Might as well pick something that he isn't already familiar with.

Starter thief outfit:
Going to go the route less obvious here and say this style of waistcoat/shirt but in the same colours as his canon Kid outfit. I.e. White vest, white pants, blue shirt, red tie. His mask, if I'm allowed to have this, would look more like one of those futuristic visors rather than a traditional mask - without the futuristic functionality of course. Glows pretentiously but can be turned off. That's about all it can do for now unless he upgrades later.

If the above isn't allowed and I have to go with a traditional mask, then I'll find something suitable.

Powers:
He's got none, and that's really the scariest power of all.. The power of normalcy.

Samples:
They're not strictly canon...but if this is more about getting a feel for consistent voice or ability to write then sample 1 (PSL AU) and sample 2 (thread from his other game).
